Discover 5 reasons why you’ll love our chicken coops

Save time & Money

#1 reason: easy cleaning

Cleaned in less than 10 minutes

We know that the chore of cleaning the hen house is never fun, so we’ve designed our Chicken Coops so that it can be done in a matter of minutes. The recycled plastic we use means that it can be washed with a simple jet of water or a high-pressure washer without the risk of damaging the hen house, unlike a traditional wooden coop which can be damaged when cleaned with water.

The inside of our Chicken Coop is very accessible, unlike most hen houses on the market. Thanks to their wide rear door, detachable nesting boxes and perches and a roof that can be removed in seconds, you can easily access any part of it for effortless cleaning.

The optional droppings trays make cleaning even easier by simply emptying them, then replacing them with clean litter in a matter of seconds. Cleaning is child’s play with our hen houses.

#2 reason: an unbeatable 25-year warranty

We’ve been making our chicken coops for over 17 years and are so confident in the quality of the recycled plastic we use that we can guarantee our coops for an incredible 25 years. And guess what, we’re sure that even after that, you’ll still be able to use them just as you did on day one.

#3 reason: no maintenance

NO paintings or repairs

Traditional wooden hen houses still need regular maintenance. Rotting wood, water leaks and seepage, unusable droppings drawers….

All this is a thing of the past if you buy a Nestera Chicken Coop, thanks to its 9mm thick panels and the use of recycled plastic treated against UV rays and resistant to the elements, you won’t have to do anything but clean it and it will only take you a few minutes. So enjoy spending more time with your chickens.

#4 reason : Designed for Animal Welfare

Animal welfare is and always has been our priority at Nestera. That’s why our Chicken Coops are designed to provide maximum comfort for your hens.

From the size of the perches with their rounded edges, to the nesting boxes offering a calm and quiet space for your charges, everything has been thought out so that your hens have an habitat that suits their needs and well-being.

Our hen houses are used by professional and amateur breeders all over the world, and their feedbacks are more than positive about the Nestera choice. And we’re sure hens would say the same.

Happy chickens = Healthier chickens

#5 reason: saving time, money & energy

Get more time with your flock

We know cleaning a wooden coop is taking a long time, scrubbing and scratching every corner and wooden slats is a long and tedious task.

Droppings stick to the floor and walls and are hard to remove properly and even when it’s done, it’s not properly sanitized as it should be. In addition, no reason to change every few years your coop because it’s too damaged, rotten or falling apart.

Save your time, money and energy by getting a chicken coop that will be cleaned in less than 10 minutes and last forever.

frequently asked questions

  • Are Nestera plastic chicken coops fox-proof?

We really think so! We've not received a single report of a fox getting into one of our coops. Our ‘chew-resistant’ coops are made from 100% recycled plastic which is really tough, and the ventilation holes are far too small for a fox. The rear door is lockable and the front door is reinforced with rotating metal slide, which makes it difficult for animals to open by lifting.

  • Are Nestera plastic chicken coops red mite-proof?

Unfortunately, nothing is 100% red mite-proof. However, Nestera chicken coops are intelligently designed to be extremely red mite-resistant, as well as easy to clean! Red mites are tiny, and live in cracks and joints in poultry housing. Unlike wooden chicken coops, ours are made from solid 100% recycled plastic and created to ensure there are very few suitable places for red mite to hide. We recommend sprinkling Diatom powder around the coop when refreshing the bedding, so any mites present are quickly dealt with before they can multiply.

  • Do Nestera chicken coops get cold in winter and/or hot in the summer?

The plastic we use is 100% recycled which we have found to be an excellent material for chicken coops. In the winter months, the required ventilation means the temperature inside the coop will be similar to the ambient air temperature outside. However, chickens are quite tolerant of the cold as their feathers provide good insulation. During the warmer summer months, our solid, UV-resistant roofs reflects the sun's heat really well, keeping your chickens cool and comfortable.

  • How many chickens can live in a Nestera chicken coop?

For our standard range of 3 coops, we offer each in 3 sizes: Small, Medium and Large. The Small is designed for up to 2 large birds or 4 bantams, the Medium for up to 5 large birds or 9 bantams, and the Large suits up to 8 large birds or 15 bantams. The Wagon is suitable for up to 8 large birds or 15 bantams.

  • Can I install an automatic door opener on a Nestera coop?

Absolutely! You don't need get up when your chickens do! We offer the Nestera Automatic Door Opener as an optional extra with all our coops. Discreet pre-drilled holes are included on each coop for easy installation.

  • How long does it take to assemble a Nestera plastic chicken coop?

Most people manage to successfully assemble their Nestera coop in well under an hour. You certainly don’t need to be a DIY expert! We provide clear and easy-to-follow instructions with every chicken coop.

Good solution for a coop you can really clean

Took quite a few hours to build an ‘easy when you know how’ thing. Instructions printed out would be helpful so as not to keep opening and referring to your phone. The metal clip fixings work well once you get the hang of them. The door is an odd construction and I’m sure could be improved from its current swing and string style. Main benefit is the ease of cleaning, everything strips out and can be hosed or wiped down easily having recently had to deal With a mite infestation in our precious wooden coop this was a very important feature for us. Overall I’d recommend to others and the hens like it!

A little disappointed

Unfortunately the coop arrived ( eventually, delivery was not very prompt) with some pieces missing. Thankfully the missing items were posted to us free of charge. For the price paid we felt the build quality could have been better. My husband is an engineer with extensive practical experience so he was able to modify the fit of the door sliders that in their original state prevented the door from opening fully. Many of the pressed ‘holes’ had to be cleared of plastic debris before plugs could be inserted. For the price we expected a more precise finish. That said, our chucks seem to like it .

Good product

I’ve given Nestera 4 stars. Overall the ordering, delivery and product are worthy of 5 stars, however I’ve deducted 1 star for the following reasons. 1. The instructions inside the box were for a different product. I ordered the lodge, however the instructions inside the box were for the small coop, the coops are similar so working out how to assemble the larger coop wasn’t difficult. 2. The metal sliding door at the front of the coop would jam in the morning and evening. The door would move freely during the day, but in the morning and evening the door would stick even thought the securing bolt at the top was loose, it would jam to such an extent that the key ring clip which attached to the Clevis pin broke. To rectify this I had to remove the Clevis pin and attach a heavy duty key ring directly to the door. Because of this it would be pointless buying the automated timer to open the door. Would I buy from Nestera again. Yes, the issues I had were more irritating than catastrophic, however, if there was a little more attention to detail then it’s 5 stars all the time.

Great design

Very easy to build, sturdy and neat henhouse. The inside walls are very smooth so I'm sure it'll be easy to keep clean... my hens haven't moved in yet but I'm sure it's going to work well.
