Are Nestera plastic chicken coops fox-proof?
We really think so! We've not received a single report of a fox getting into one of our coops. Our ‘chew-resistant’ coops are made from 100% recycled plastic which is really tough, and the ventilation holes are far too small for a fox. The rear door is lockable and the front door is reinforced with a smooth vertical-sliding metal door, which makes it difficult for animals to open.

Are Nestera plastic chicken coops red mite-proof?
Unfortunately, nothing is 100% red mite-proof. However, Nestera chicken coops are intelligently designed to be extremely red mite-resistant, as well as easy to clean! Red mites are tiny, and live in cracks and joints in poultry housing. Unlike wooden chicken coops, ours are made from solid 100% recycled plastic and created to ensure there are very few suitable places for red mite to hide. We recommend sprinkling Diatom powder around the coop when refreshing the bedding, so any mites present are quickly dealt with before they can multiply.

Do Nestera plastic chicken coops get cold in winter and/or hot in the summer?
The plastic we use is 100% recycled which we have found to be an excellent material for chicken coops. In the winter months, the required ventilation means the temperature inside the coop will be similar to the ambient air temperature outside. However, chickens are quite tolerant of the cold as their feathers provide good insulation. During the warmer summer months, our solid, UV-resistant roofs reflects the sun's heat really well, keeping your chickens cool and comfortable.

How many chickens can live in a Nestera plastic chicken coop?
For our standard range of 3 coops, we offer each in 3 sizes: Small, Medium and Large. The Small is designed for up to 2 large birds or 4 bantams, the Medium for up to 5 large birds or 9 bantams and the Large suits up to 9 large birds or 15 bantams. The Wagon is suitable for up to 8 large birds or 15 bantams.

Can I install an automatic door opener on a Nestera plastic chicken coop?
Absolutely! You don't need get up when your chickens do! We offer the Nestera Automatic Door Opener as an optional extra with all our coops. Discreet pre-drilled holes are included on each coop for easy installation.

How long does it take to assemble a Nestera plastic chicken coop?
Most people manage to successfully assemble their Nestera coop in well under an hour. You certainly don’t need to be a DIY expert! We provide clear and easy-to-follow instructions with every chicken coop.

United KingdomA solid and nice looking wagon
The reason we looked at plastic houses was due to red mite. After spending the summer scrubbing, treating and getting no where in completely getting rid of them, we decided to bite the bullet and buy the wagon, even although it is expensive. We had only had the wooden coops for a little over a year, so it was frustrating. Ordering online was easy, we did have to wait over a week before it was delivered, however, I expected this as we are up in the north of Scotland. I had read reviews and watched videos of the construction and we thought it looked simple but it certainly took us longer than implied. We are both mid 40’s and at times we said that some older people would struggle as it was quite a task putting on the roof and having the strength to hold it in place whilst securing it! We were about 2 days putting it all together, not the couple of hours as advertised. This is why I’ve not given a full 5stars. We had an issue with the door fitting as the holes and hinges did not line up, but a phone call to customer services and photos sent and a new replacement door was sent the same day. Can’t fault the service at all!! We have 12 bantams (a mix of Silkies, Pekins and Polish) and there is ample space for them all. The ladies all seem really happy which is great. I would definitely recommend and when we add to our wee flock we will be buying another!! Just wish we had known about the Nestera Wagon before buying the wooden coops. All I can say is - if you are deliberating buying- do it, you won’t regret it.
